Aldosterone

Aldosterone is the main mineralocorticoid hormone produced by the adrenal cortex in the adrenal gland.

Aldosterone regulates sodium and potassium and is important in the maintenance of blood pressure and blood volume.

The synthesis and secretion of aldosterone is regulated by the renin-angiotensin system. The aldosterone test is used for investigation of primary aldosteronism (Conn’s syndrome) and secondary aldosteronism.
